Who Wants a Commercial Lights Mug?

I’ve got a friend who is looking for a gift for his father’s birthday next month. He had me sit with him while he went online and tried in vain to find something his dad would like. After about 30 minutes of watching him jump from site to site, I finally asked, “What does your dad do for a living?”

“Well, he’s retired, but he used to be an electrician.”

“Then try this. Get him a commemorative coffe or beer mug with the phrase ‘You light up my life’ and a picture of some commercial lights above it.”

“He won’t like that.”

“Why not? If he has a somewhat decent sense of humor, he’ll find it funny. And there are plenty of places where you can buy a blank mug and customize it with anything you like.”

“I don’t know…”

“Well, you’re sure not making any headway doing it this way. Look, order the mug and then look for something else. If you don’t find anything, at least you have the mug to give him at the birthday party.”

Well, my friend hasn’t acted on my wonderful idea yet, and his father’s birthday is fast approaching. I just hope my friend avoids the commemorative pen and pencil set.
